UX and Photography

Ordermentum is a two sided B2B platform which allows food and beverage retailers connect with their suppliers, place orders and pay invoices all in the one place. I was responsible for managing all aspects of UX and Design across our web platform as well as our native Android and iOS apps.

I worked closely with the Engineering, Marketing and Growth teams to help provide the best possible experiences for our customers. I was the first full time UX Designer and Ordermentum and in my time the company transitioned strategically from being almost entirely supplier driven to creating amazing experiences for our retailers that in turn drove more business to our amazing supplier network.

I led research and design activities for both sides of the network, and during my almost 5 years we saw a significant improvement to our NPS responses as well as overall satisfaction from the network. Ordermentum is one of the most flexible platforms for suppliers to manage their business and that comes with some inherent complexity, a challenge that was very satisfying to overcome when we overhauled the UI on the retailer side of the network. By creating a simpler interface, time-poor business owners were able to have a much better experience which resulted in less incorrect orders, less payment failures, and a stronger relationship between retailers and their suppliers.

It was my responsibility to manage and maintain our living design system that created consistency throughout our products in a way that still ensured each platform had a native, natural experience. I worked with two offshore junior designers and while they did not report to me directly, I was able to give them mentorship when it came to design and research techniques and methodologies.

Research at Ordermentum ranged from concept validation and pricing analysis to help define strategic direction through to project specific UX research using techniques such as interviews, usability testing, contextual inquiry, customer journey mapping, competitor analysis, surveys, NPS and CSAT.

Design systems

At Ordermentum I maintained three linked, living design systems.

  • The core design system which contained components that could be applied across any platform.

  • An iOS design system which referenced the core design system but had overrides and different components specific to the iOS ecosystem that made the experience feel more natural (e.g. specific styling for drilldown rows and segmented controls)

  • An Android design system based on Material Design so that users with the native Android app had a natural experience, again including specific components for Android (e.g. FAB)

Each of the design systems were kept up to date using Figma’s variables system for design tokens, which meant that anyone on the Product team was able to quickly create wireframes and prototypes using pre-existing components quickly and easily without concern of creating inconsistencies in the experience.

A new retailer UI

One of the major projects completed during my time at Ordermentum was an overhaul of the retailer experience on both web and the apps.

We gave the platform a major design uplift as well as implemented new and exciting functionality such as providing a way for retailers to chat directly with their suppliers, track which invoices were yet to be paid, and keep track of their spending across all of their suppliers.

We worked hard to create an experience that not only felt modern, but it allowed retailers to place their orders quickly and efficiently.

Retailers in the food and beverage industry are often extremely busy and every second counts, so one of the primary guiding principles of the design was to get out of the way whenever possible.
